Week 2: Pattern | Shot of Inspiration

The theme for the second week of the Shot of Inspiration project is pattern. I had so many different ideas for this I had a hard time actually going through with something. But as I thought about the word pattern I kept coming back to my love for patterned clothing…especially tights and rainboots. I think Avery must have every type of striped, polka dotted, floral tight in her size, and really, plain ol’ rainboots are not as much fun for stomping in puddles I think. I also wanted to challenge myself to not actually having a person in my image, since I seem to always go straight away to portrait mode. So this week I did more of a still life. It is nice to try different things, and that is definitely part of the challenge of this project. I hope you enjoy my take on this week’s theme and come back every other Monday to see a new theme and resulting image.

Week 1: Inspiration | Shot of Inspiration

Well say hello to another new project for 2012! I am extra excited for this project I have spear-headed, along with a dozen other photographers from around the world, including Australia, Canada, and all over the US. The project is called Shot of Inspiration and here is a little description of what it’s all about:

Shot of inspiration is a bi-weekly project focused on embracing your creative heart, a fabulous term from the amazing Barb Uil of JinkyArt. As professional photographers we often get caught up in the business of photography and stop shooting for ourselves. Focusing on your creative heart is a reminder to look inside, explore the possibilities, think outside the box, and create art for art’s sake. This is a challenge to push your creative self and stay inspired.

Our theme for week #1 is Inspiration. I immediately though of my biggest inspiration in both life and photography, my daughter Avery. Her sense of imagination amazes and inspires me daily. I hope you enjoy my take on this week’s theme and come back every other Monday to see a new theme and resulting image.

Be Present | 2012 Just Be Project

I hope for so many things this year…I plan on making it a great year, the best year yet, and am working on several projects to aid that dream. This is one project that I am so proud to start. Each month I will be posting one of these quotes, just a reminder to stay motivated and on the right path. Here are a few more of this little guy. His mama is also a photographer and friend of mine – I couldn’t be happier for them! I can hardly believe with the craziness of the holidays last month it seems like I just photographed his newborn portraits and he is already a month old now. Can’t wait to watch him grow up.

Isn’t my brothers family cute?!! I just love these guys, more than words can say. It means so much to me that I was able to capture them together. And I am so happy we picked up this bouquet of flowers from the farmer’s market that morning, it adds the perfect touch of color. I still have few more 2011 sessions to post, but I am looking forward to a new year with some new changes!

Meet Sam Danger! Such a good little guy for our session together, although very alert. He has the cutest little cowlick, a perfect swirl that I just had to capture. Big sister was a treat too. Sibling shots can be tough with newborns but she did amazing. Love all the stars we incorporated into the session…I also created a custom canvas collage for them, with a fun star border.

Nothing fills my heart up like when a creative session comes together like this one did. I had an idea to do a fruit stand theme for Reese’s 4th birthday portraits and the results absolutely exceeded my expectations. Reese is growing up to be such a beautiful, smart, and funny little girl. And really, what could be cuter than a toddler in leg warmers?! So, I share with you a few of my favorites from a very special fall day.
