Ben | 9 Days New | Olympia Tacoma Newborn Photographer

As an artist, I am such a visual person. I had been dreaming up ideas for this session in my head for such a long time that when I saw my vision come to life it literally took my breath away. Let me rewind a little bit here. One of little Ben’s mamas is an amazing local photographer herself, Sarah of Sarah Wolfe Photography. I came across her work through an online forum a few years ago and was instantly smitten by the way she captures childhood, the dreamy colors of her work, and the genuine feeling that exudes from her pictures. When she chose me to capture these first pictures of her third little boy I was beyond honored. Since I already knew a little about her I had a good idea of the direction I wanted to take the session; I added to that the information she gave me on her session planning form to really personalize things. Little Ben’s family lives in a cabin in the woods which was my overall inspiration for the styling of his session. I added in a few other personal touches as well; his moms’ favorite colors and the crowns for the little prince.

I have actually been asked a lot about the fern crown I used; I made this crown myself out of cedar branches and sword fern tips I collected from the woods nearby. Nothing fills me up more than using my own hands to craft one-of-a-kind elements for my sessions. Speaking of handcrafted, I have also been asked about the wooden prop I used, and it was hand made too. It is actually the cake stand from my own wedding. My dad made it from a discarded cut end of a log from his log cabin and a burl he found on the beach.

I love this session so much I had a super hard time narrowing down which images to blog, so there are going to be a lot. But you don’t mind right? Most of all I am glad to have made a new connection and friendship with someone I have so much in common with. I look forward to seeing this little guy grow up in a family that is just so full of love.

I also want to share the incredibly kind words Sarah shared with me about her experience:

Tami took the time to ask questions about our family prior to our newborn session. Based off of our answers and her own intuition she masterfully picked props and posing that made my heart sing. She went above and beyond the newborn pictures I had been dreaming of! Her carefully thought out vision and exquisite attention to detail is remarkable. We felt right at home both with her and in her studio. Even my newborn seemed especially at ease in her arms.

And I have to thank the slew of talented artists and craftspeople that provide some of the lovely things which added to the beauty of this session including: Zoe and Oliver, Knits for Cuties, Lillian.Grace, Pastel Dreams, Lil Owl Knitts, Avonli CottageLittle Kiera’s Bows, and Devoted Knits.

I would love hear which of these images is your favorite and why? Leave me a comment below.
