Good morning friends! Today I am so excited to share with you a really fun and creative idea for your newborn session: newborn milk bath photos As a Tacoma newborn photographer serving families in the Seattle, Puyallup, Bonney Lake, Tacoma and surrounding areas, I am always learning new techniques and keeping my eye on current trends. Milk baths themselves are nothing new. People have known for a long time that bathing in milk can leave your skin soft, as the contains natural exfoliants. Milk baths can even be made with breast milk (see a tutorial here), which is a great alternative to pumping and dumping, or a way to use up expired breast milk from the freezer.
When I photograph a milk bath for a newborn or older baby I use regular powdered milk. In my studio I don’t add any scents or essential oils, although at home this would be a great addition. I do however often add floral elements and greenery. Usually I pick the flowers from my own organic garden. I also collect greenery on nature walks, purchase bouquets from my local farmer’s market, or when they are not in-season I really on the florist or grocery store to find the perfect blooms.
Adding a milk bath to your newborn session with Butterfly Kiss Photography is a beautiful whimsical way to celebrate your new baby. You will not only have the gorgeous photos to keep and admire, but also the bonding experience with your little one to cherish. I also love creating milk bath photos for milestone sessions and first birthdays. They have such a natural organic feel and babies just love the warm soothing water.
Here is a recent floral newborn milk bath session with a beautiful baby girl. She was so calm as soon as she touched the water. She was safe in mama’s hands and just peacefully looked around while I took these sweet pictures.
